Fine Art Printing

Museum-grade giclée printing on archival papers, canvas, and alternative substrates — produced in-house on Epson large-format printers with pigment inks rated for over 200 years of color permanence.

From a single artist proof to a 5,000-piece hotel art program, every print is color-corrected, proofed, and produced at our Fullerton, CA facility.

Why Fine Art Printing Matters

The substrate you print on is not just a surface — it is part of the artwork. A smooth rag paper renders photographic detail with razor precision. A textured cotton rag adds depth and warmth to a painted original. A stretched canvas gives dimension and presence on a wall. The right match between image and substrate is the difference between a print and a piece of art.

Photo Papers

Resin-coated papers with vibrant color saturation and sharp detail. Ideal for photography, digital art, and commercial reproductions where impact matters most.

Luster

A soft semi-gloss finish that balances rich color with minimal glare. The most popular choice for professional photography and commercial art programs — versatile enough to work in any lighting environment.

Smooth vs. textured rag: Smooth rag papers have a flat, even surface that maximizes fine detail and sharpness. Textured rag papers retain a natural tooth that adds physical depth and a handcrafted feel. The distinction affects how ink sits on the surface — smooth papers show more detail, textured papers add warmth.

Canvas Prints

Canvas gives artwork physical presence and dimension. Gallery-wrapped on stretcher bars for a frameless look, or mounted and framed for a more traditional presentation.

Decor Canvas

Our standard production canvas — a bright white, poly-cotton blend with a smooth, subtle weave. Durable, cost-effective, and ideal for high-volume commercial art programs where consistency across hundreds of prints matters.

Three gallery-wrapped canvases showing 5/8 inch, 1.5 inch, and 2 inch stretcher bar depths side by side

Stretcher Bar Depth

Which Thickness Is Right for Your Project?

Every gallery-wrapped canvas is stretched over a solid wood stretcher bar. The depth you choose affects the visual presence of the piece and how it sits on the wall.

5/8"
Thin Wrap

Slim profile, close to the wall. Best for smaller pieces, multi-panel groupings, and floater frames. Most cost-effective for high-volume programs.

1.5"
Standard Gallery Wrap — Most Popular

The industry standard. Substantial presence on the wall while staying manageable in weight. Works standalone or in a floater frame.

2"
Deep Gallery Wrap

Maximum presence — dramatic shadow line on the wall. Ideal for large statement pieces, hotel lobbies, and spaces where the art should command attention.

Edge Treatment

How the Sides of Your Canvas Look

The edge treatment determines what appears on the sides once the canvas is stretched over the bar. Each option changes the finished look.

Image Wrap

The artwork extends around all four sides for a seamless gallery look. Best with thicker bars and images that have breathing room around the edges.

Mirror Wrap

The outer edges of the image are reflected onto the sides so the full artwork stays on the front face. Smart when the composition runs edge-to-edge.

Solid-Color Wrap

Sides finished in black, white, or a custom color match. Clean and modern — keeps attention on the front of the piece. Popular for multi-panel installations.

Epson SureColor P-Series large-format fine art printer at Picture This Framing

Our Equipment

Epson SureColor P-Series Printers

We print exclusively on Epson's SureColor P-Series — the industry standard for archival printmaking, museum reproductions, and professional photography. These are not consumer printers with aftermarket inks. They are purpose-built fine art production systems engineered for color accuracy, repeatability, and permanence.

Ink System

  • 10- and 12-Color Pigment Ink Sets

UltraChrome PRO10 and PRO12 ink sets with specialized Orange, Green, and Violet inks for an expanded color gamut that handles difficult gradients and deep hues.

  • Dedicated Black Channels

Permanent, simultaneous channels for Photo Black and Matte Black. No ink switching when moving between glossy photo paper and textured fine art paper — consistent output and zero waste.

  • Black Enhance Overcoat

A clear overcoat layer that increases black density and contrast on glossy and metallic papers while eliminating bronzing and gloss differential.

Print Head & Media

  • PrecisionCore MicroTFP Heads

Variable-sized droplets as small as 3.5 picoliters at 2400 x 1200 dpi — producing razor-sharp line work, smooth tonal gradations, and fine brushstroke textures.

  • Automatic Nozzle Verification

Built-in sensors check nozzle health and execute microscopic cleaning without wasting ink — critical when printing on expensive fine art paper where a single clogged nozzle can ruin a sheet.

  • Thick Media & Roll Support

Top-loading and front-feed paths accept media up to 1.5mm thick. Roll feeders support 2" and 3" cores for panoramic, banner, and large-scale canvas runs with borderless output up to 64" wide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our fine art printing process, substrates, and capabilities.

Giclée (pronounced "zhee-clay") is a fine art printing process that uses archival pigment inks and high-resolution output — typically 2400 x 1200 dpi — on museum-grade papers and canvas. Unlike consumer inkjet printers that use dye-based inks, giclée printers use pigment inks rated for 200+ years of color permanence. The result is richer tonal gradations, deeper blacks, and a wider color gamut that faithfully reproduces original artwork.
Our prints use archival pigment inks certified by Wilhelm Imaging Research for longevity. Under proper display conditions — behind UV-protective glass, away from direct sunlight — color prints can last over 200 years, and black-and-white prints over 400 years. This is why museums, galleries, and collectors trust pigment printing for fine art reproductions.
Our large-format printers handle media up to 64 inches wide, with virtually unlimited length on roll-fed substrates. This means we can produce oversized panoramic prints, large-scale canvas wraps, and commercial murals. For standard framed pieces, we routinely produce prints from 8x10 inches up to 44x60 inches and beyond.
We accept both. If you have a high-resolution digital file (minimum 300 DPI at final print size), we can work directly from that. If you have a physical original — a painting, drawing, or photograph — we offer flatbed scanning up to 16x20 inches and professional fine art capture for larger works. Every job includes color correction and proofing to ensure the print matches your expectations.
Smooth rag paper has a flat, even surface that delivers sharp detail and saturated colors — ideal for photography, digital art, and designs with fine line work. Textured rag paper has a slightly rough surface that mimics traditional watercolor paper, adding a tactile, handmade quality that suits paintings, illustrations, and work where texture is part of the presentation.
Yes. Every fine art print job includes digital proofing, and we offer physical proof prints for color-critical work. For commercial art programs with hundreds or thousands of prints, we produce sample prints on the actual substrate so you can evaluate color, texture, and framing compatibility before committing to the full run.
Metal prints are images infused directly into specially coated aluminum sheets using a dye-sublimation process. The result is an ultra-vibrant, frameless presentation with exceptional durability. Metal prints are ideal for modern interiors, high-traffic commercial spaces, and environments where traditional framing is impractical — lobbies, restaurants, outdoor-adjacent installations, and healthcare facilities.

Absolutely. Commercial art programs are our specialty — we produce, frame, label by room, and ship installation-ready art for hotels, corporate offices, cruise ships, and multi-location brands. Our Fullerton, CA production facility is built for volume with consistent quality from the first print to the five-thousandth.

We also produce artist edition runs for conventions like Comic-Con, gallery shows, art fairs, and online storefronts. Whether you need 50 prints for a weekend show or 500 for a retailer, we can print, mat, back with foam board, sleeve in clear bags, and have them retail-ready for your booth or shipping table.

Need matting, backing, or framing as part of the order? We do that in-house too. Read our guide to choosing the right frame for your project or contact us to discuss your next run.
