How Commercial Framing Works

Whether you are specifying for a 300-room hotel or need 50 pieces for a new office, the process is the same — designed for consistency, efficiency, and zero surprises at installation.

Step 1

Consult & Specify

Share your artwork, environment, and budget. We recommend moulding, glazing, and matting options tailored to your project.

Step 2

Sample & Approve

We build a physical prototype with your chosen materials. Nothing goes to production until you sign off on the finished sample.

Step 3

Production Run

Frames are batch-cut from the same lot, assembled on jigs for precision, and QC-checked against the approved sample.

Step 4

Label & Pack

Every piece is labeled by room or location and packed in installer-ready packaging — no guesswork on site.

Step 5

Ship or Install

Nationwide freight delivery, or our crew handles white-glove installation for Southern California projects.

Not Sure Which Frame Is Right?

Every environment is different — what works in a boutique hotel lobby is wrong for a hospital corridor. We'll walk you through the options, build a physical sample, and make sure the look, durability, and price are exactly right before a single piece goes to production.

Glazing & Protection

Glass & Acrylic Options

The glazing you choose protects the artwork and controls how it looks on the wall. We carry six options — from standard clear glass to museum-grade anti-reflective — so you can match protection, clarity, and budget to each environment.

Glass

Traditional glazing for standard environments. Glass offers superior optical clarity and scratch resistance at a lower cost than acrylic — but it is heavier and breaks on impact.

Clear Glass

Standard picture framing glass. Bright, sharp clarity with natural reflections. The most affordable glazing option.

UV Protection: Minimal
Glare: Visible reflection
Best for: Behind-desk, low-traffic, budget programs

UV-Resistant Glass

Same clarity as standard glass with a specialized coating that blocks 99% of UV light — critical for preserving color in naturally lit spaces.

UV Protection: 99% UV filtering
Glare: Visible reflection
Best for: Sunlit walls, archival protection, valuable originals

Claryl Museum Glass

The premium option. Anti-reflective coating virtually eliminates glare while maintaining 99% UV protection. The artwork appears to float without glass in front of it.

UV Protection: 99% UV filtering
Glare: Anti-reflective — virtually invisible
Best for: Galleries, executive suites, high-visibility lobbies

Acrylic (Plexiglas)

Shatter-resistant and lightweight. Acrylic is required in healthcare, cruise ships, and any environment where broken glass is a safety risk. It weighs roughly half as much as glass at the same size.

Clear Acrylic

Standard shatter-resistant glazing. Same clarity as glass with significantly less weight and no breakage risk. The default for safety-sensitive environments.

UV Protection: Minimal
Glare: Visible reflection
Best for: High-traffic, cruise ships, pediatric, budget safety

Non-Glare Acrylic (OP3)

A lightly textured surface that diffuses overhead glare while providing 99% UV protection. The go-to for hospitals, medical offices, and commercial corridors with harsh fluorescent or LED lighting.

UV Protection: 99% UV filtering
Glare: Reduced — soft diffusion
Best for: Healthcare, corridors, overhead-lit spaces

UV Acrylic (OP3 Clear)

Crystal-clear acrylic with 99% UV protection and no surface texture. Combines the optical clarity of glass with the safety of acrylic — ideal when both protection and brilliance matter.

UV Protection: 99% UV filtering
Glare: Visible reflection
Best for: Sunlit walls requiring shatter resistance

Matting & Finishing

The Details That Elevate

Matting is not just a border — it controls how the eye enters the artwork, protects the print from touching the glazing, and adds a layer of sophistication that separates commercial-grade framing from commodity work.

Conservation Mat Board

Acid-free, lignin-free mat board in hundreds of colors. The standard for commercial framing — protects artwork from acid migration and adds a clean, professional border.

Linen & Fabric Mats

Textured linen, silk, and suede-wrapped mats that add tactile richness. Preferred for hospitality and executive environments where the frame package needs to feel as premium as it looks.

Foil Stamping & Custom Cuts

Hot foil stamping for hotel logos, artist names, or room numbers directly on the mat. Custom-shape mat cutouts for unusual artwork dimensions or multi-opening configurations.

Float Mounting

Artwork mounted with visible edges for a modern, gallery-style presentation. The piece appears to hover inside the frame.

Fillets & Liners

Thin accent strips between mat layers or between the artwork and frame — adding depth, contrast, and a refined layered look.

Color Matching

Consistent mat color across thousands of pieces. We batch from the same dye lot and QC every board against the approved sample.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about commercial custom framing, materials, and production.

We maintain one of the largest moulding libraries in Orange County — hundreds of active profiles across wood, metal, and composite materials, plus access to thousands more through our manufacturer relationships. If you have a specific look in mind, chances are we either stock it or can source it.
Yes. If you have an existing frame profile, finish, or moulding sample, we can identify and source an exact match or the closest available equivalent. For renovation and replacement programs, this is one of our most common requests — we maintain records of mouldings used in past projects to make reorders seamless.
Healthcare facilities typically require shatter-resistant acrylic glazing — either clear acrylic or OP3 non-glare acrylic — to meet safety codes. Behavioral health settings may also require anti-ligature mounting hardware. Cruise ships universally require acrylic (no glass) due to maritime safety regulations and vibration concerns. We specify and produce for both environments routinely.
There is no formal minimum. We handle single-piece custom framing for walk-in clients alongside 5,000-piece hotel programs. That said, our workflow and pricing are optimized for volume — programs of 25 pieces or more benefit from production-line efficiencies that bring down per-piece costs significantly.
Production-line methodology. We batch-cut moulding from the same lot to ensure consistent color and grain, use jigs and fixtures for repeatable assembly, and QC-check every piece against the approved sample. Our facility is purpose-built for this — it is not a retail shop trying to scale up.
Absolutely. We regularly frame pieces up to 60x90 inches and beyond. Oversized work requires specific moulding depth and strength to support the weight, and we engineer the frame build accordingly — including reinforced corners, additional hanging hardware, and crating for safe transit.
Yes. Several of our moulding suppliers offer FSC-certified and PEFC-certified wood options, and our composite and recycled-material mouldings are inherently more sustainable. If your project requires LEED documentation or sustainability certifications, we can specify materials that meet those requirements.
A typical 500-piece program takes 4 to 8 weeks from sample approval through final shipment, depending on moulding availability and finishing complexity. Rush timelines are possible for programs using in-stock moulding. We provide a detailed production schedule at the start of every project so you can plan around your installation date.
Always. We build a physical prototype — a finished, framed piece with your chosen moulding, mat, and glazing — for approval before any production run begins. For programs specifying multiple frame types, we produce a sample of each configuration. The sample is your sign-off point; nothing goes to production until you approve it.
Pricing is per piece, based on moulding material, frame size, glazing type, and matting complexity. Volume programs benefit from batch efficiencies — the more pieces in a run, the lower the per-unit cost. We provide itemized quotes so you can see exactly what drives the price and make informed trade-offs between materials and budget.
